Michigan History Day®, is a year-long educational program of the Historical Society of Michigan that encourages students to explore local, state, national and world history. Winners of the state level Michigan History Day competition in the Junior and Senior categories move on to compete in National History Day in College Park, Maryland.

The Friends of Detroit's Black Historic Sites Committee invites you to a new year of their signature Jazz in the Streets of Old Detroit concert series.
Join us on Wednesday, March 6 for Straight Ahead, an all-female group of strong, inventive instrumentalists and vocalists. Widely recognized for their eclectic and soulful approach to creating music, the Straight Ahead sound ranges comfortably from mainstream jazz R&B ballads, avant-garde to Brazilian funk. Their live performances are a dynamic celebration of power and joy.

Join us as we visit Sweetest Heart of Mary for an optional Friday Fish Fry at 3:30 p.m. (meal cost not included in ticket price) followed by a tour of the building at 5 p.m. Originating with the parish of the Gothic Church of St. Albertus, we’ll explore the church’s beginning with Father Kolasinski’s installation as the fifth pastor of St. Albertus parish through his removal, after which Father Kolasinski’s followers in Detroit formed their own parochial community.

In celebration of 313 Day, join us for a pop-up exhibition of garments and home accessories created by Tommey Walker of Detroit vs. Everybody. Drawing inspiration from Detroit history along with artifacts in the Detroit Historical Society collection, Walker's designs promise to offer a unique perspective on Detroit's rich heritage. By blending elements of the past with contemporary design, the new line showcases the city's resilience, innovation, and diversity in a visually captivating way.

Carlos Diaz Exhibition Opening Reception
