This is the web site of the Detroit Historical Society

Information we collect and store
For each visitor to our web site, our server automatically recognizes the consumer's domain name, but not the e-mail address (where possible).  We collect domain names in order to assess aggregate information regarding pages that consumers visit. The information we collect is used to improve the content of our web site and is not shared with other organizations.

Personally identifiable information
The Society web site will only collect personal information that you knowingly and voluntarily provide when, for example, you order products or tickets, make reservations, or sign up to receive information. If you supply us with your postal or e-mail address online, you may receive periodic communications from us with information on upcoming events or new products and services.

Children’s online privacy
We do not knowingly solicit data from or market to children.

Third party distribution: We do not distribute to third parties any personally identifiable information.

Links to other Web sites are occasionally provided as a convenience for our users and their inclusion does not imply the Society’s endorsement of content or responsibility for use of these sites. Please carefully read all terms and conditions of each web site you visit.

How to remove your information
If you do not wish to receive information from us, please let us know by using the following contact information via e-mail at peterp@detroithistorical.org. Please label the e-mail with the subject "OPT-OUT". Remember to provide us with your exact name and address so that we can remove your name from our list.

Payment Policy

We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover. Your order will be processed when we receive payment. Michigan residents must pay a 6% sales tax.  Sales tax does not apply to residents of other states or non-taxable items.

Shipping Policy

All orders will be shipped via UPS ground.  Your shipping options are:

  • Standard delivery (3-7 business days)
  • 2-Day delivery     (1-2 business days)

 Please provide a home or business address to which we will ship your order.  We are unable to ship to a P.O. Box.  Upon completing your order, you will receive an e-mail confirmation that your order has been received.  Please allow 1-2 business days to process, package and ship your order.  When your order has been shipped, you will receive shipping information telling you when you can expect your order to arrive.

In the rare event that an item is out-of-stock or if we expect a shipping delay, we will notify you.  In addition to your address, please provide us with a home telephone number or e-mail address where we can contact you.

International orders must be shipped USPS. We welcome international orders but will advise the customer of the additional shipping charges via e-mail.

Return Policy

We guarantee your satisfaction with our products and service. If you are not happy for any reason, you can use the contact information provided in your confirmation e-mail and we will be happy to assist you.

In-Store:

Any return or exchange must be completed within 14 days of purchase.  A dated receipt is required for all returns or exchanges.  The products that you return must be unused and unopened.  Videos, CDs, and DVDs must still be sealed in their original packaging.  All clearance, holiday, and seasonal merchandise are not returnable.  If the item you purchased is defective or damaged prior to purchase, please notify us within 7 days, so that we may exchange your item.  Customers seeking a refund for purchases will be issued a check.

Online Store:

The above return policy also applies to Online Store transactions.  In addition, a 10% restocking fee will be subtracted from the refund unless the product was defective.  All returns must be re-shipped via a carrier that provides a tracking service (i.e. UPS).  A Return Authorization must be provided in advance by the museum staff prior to shipping the item.  Please contact us at williamb@detroithistorical.org or call us at (313) 833-4727 (office line) to assist you with this process.  Once you receive a Return Authorization number, please write it on your return shipping label. We are not responsible for shipping and handling fees of return items.
