This year's camp is SOLD OUT! Contact education@detroithistorical.org with questions. 

 

Campers will learn how the Detroit River has served and shaped our city throughout history in a fun, encouraging environment.

Topics will include:

  • the Indigenous Peoples of past and present of this region
  • how settlers transformed our waterways into a superhighway of commerce
  • the animals and plants of the Belle Isle ecosystem
  • the impact of humans on the Detroit River in conjunction with our Microplastics - Here, There, Everywhere! exhibit
  • exploration of the museum’s permanent exhibits of speedboats, ship models, freighters, and more

Additional activities will include tours of other Belle Isle attractions, investigations of our newly renovated grounds and outdoor artifacts, the waterfront, local gardens, craft projects, and more.

  • Create new friendships, experience a sense of belonging, and connect with nature
  • Engage in a wide variety of activities that inspire creativity, critical thinking, and a lifelong commitment to learning

 

COST & FINANCIAL SUPPORT

The cost for Camp Detroit is $250 per student. The fee includes breakfast, lunch, daily snacks, and admission to Belle Isle facilities.

The Detroit Historical Society believes that all children should have the opportunity to participate in our programs. Through a generous grant from the Children's Foundation, Camp Detroit will be able to provide financial scholarships so that any child can enjoy the programs, regardless of financial capacity.
