Health & Safety Statement on the Coronavirus

March 13, 2020

Effective at 4:00 p.m. today, Friday March 13, 2020, both the Detroit Historical Museum and the Dossin Great Lakes Museum will close to the public. Currently we expect this closure to extend as long as the statewide school closures, with an anticipated reopening to the public the week of April 6, 2020.

All public programs between now and April 6, 2020 are postponed or cancelled at this time, including our offsite Behind the Scenes Tours scheduled for March. Given the rapidly changing nature of the outbreak, we will carefully reassess the situation in the coming weeks and share updates as they become available.

While the museums are closed during this period and all events are cancelled or postponed, employees will continue to be paid for their regularly scheduled hours. Museum security and climate systems will be fully maintained throughout the closure, ensuring the safety of all objects. The safety of visitors, members, staff and volunteers is our top priority, and we will continue to monitor new developments closely.

Regular updates will be available to the public on our website and social medial channels.
