COVID-19 HEALTH & SAFETY UPDATE

We are open and looking forward to seeing you soon! The health and safety of our community and staff remain our highest priority. Please be aware of the following protocols for visiting the museum, designed to keep everyone safe: 

Museum hours 

The Detroit Historical Museum is currently open with abbreviated hours: Thursday – Saturday (10 a.m. - 5 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m. - 5 p.m.). 

Purchase museum tickets

Ticket information 

To minimize in-person interactions and help us manage capacity, advance ticket purchases are highly encouraged. Please note, however, that they are not required. We are working to accommodate walk-in visitors as space is available.  

Tickets for 1.5 hour time blocks are available here. Please navigate to the time and date you would like by clicking on "other dates." When you complete your purchase, you will receive an e-ticket and a printable ticket option. 

Touchless payment options are available for credit card transactions at the museum front desk, and cash is also accepted. 

How can members reserve tickets? 

Please create a member account and log in here.

Select the time and date you’re interested in, and member discounts should automatically be applied to your order. 

How can the public purchase tickets? 

The general public can reserve tickets for 1.5 hour time blocks here.

Can tickets be exchanged or used at a different time? What if I’m late? 

Tickets may be exchanged. Please inquire at the front desk or call 313.833.4727 during business hours. 

Depending on museum capacity, late arrivals will be rescheduled to the next available time block.  

What can I expect when I arrive? 

Please arrive at your scheduled time and follow the directional signs to enter the Kirby lobby. A visitor experience associate will welcome you, scan your tickets (and membership card if applicable) and start you on your route through the museum. 

Masks or proper face coverings must be worn inside the museum by all visitors aged 5 and olderunless they are medically unable. Disposable masks are available at the front desk for those who need them. Each visitor will also receive a complimentary pen/stylus to use for touchscreens and buttons throughout the museum 

Capacity in the galleries and the museum store is restricted to well below legal guidelines. All public areas are continuously monitored and sanitized throughout the day. In addition, hand sanitizer stations are available throughout the museum. 

If you are feeling ill or have any symptoms of respiratory illness, please choose another day to visit and do not enter the museum. 

What amenities or attractions remain closed? 

We have done our best to keep all of our exhibitions open, safe and accessible. Please use your provided stylus to operate any buttons or touchscreens and minimize contact with high-touch surfacesA limited number of small-square-footage museum areas and interactive elements that cannot be operated with a stylus are marked off limits. Our Frontiers to Factories exhibition is currently closed for renovations.

All restrooms are open, but public water fountains will be closed for the time being. Bottled water is available at the front desk or in the museum store.

Small group tours (15 people or less) are available by appointment. To book your experience, call our staff today at 313.833.1801. At this timeall public programs have been suspended or are taking place virtually. Find our latest online offerings here.
