PROGRAM SCHEDULE:

From Maya to the Motor City
- Every brushstroke has a meaning, and with the expert guidance of muralist Elton Durán, Campers will explore how mural art colors the heritage of Detroit's Mexican-American community and get to make a little mural magic of their own.

Yalla ya Jamaya! (Let's Go, everybody!) - From Lebanon to LaFayette, Iraq to East Detroit- Campers will travel the storied history of Arab Americans in Detroit with our partner, the Arab American National Museum, piecing together the mosaic of the Arab world in Detroit (Campers will also create a mosaic)

Three Fires of Detroit's Beginning

- Campers will lay a groundwork for Detroit's future by discovering the city's past through the stories of the region's first (Indigenous) residents - the Ottawa, Chippewa, and Potawatami. Together, we'll craft a keepsake quill box that will hold our campers' own special stories.

Dynamic Diaspora

- Campers really pick up some “STEAM” as they dive into the stories and rich scientific and cultural contributions made by Detroit's African American community. After, they’ll do a bit of their own tinkering.

A Grand Leap of Faith
-
Campers will go on an incredible journey of emigrating to the United States through the eyes of Detroit's Greek-American community. With our partners, the Hellenic Museum of Detroit, we'll examine what it really means to leave one home for the promise of a better future in another.
