Belle Isle Mobility Open House

July 8 2023 | 10:00am to 1:00pm

For the last year, a team of engineers, planners, and landscape architects have been looking for sustainable ways to improve travel onto and around Belle Isle. They have developed Seven (plus) Big Ideas for achieving this goal and invite the public to the Belle Isle Mobility Open House at the Dossin Great Lakes Museum to review these potential solutions and give their feedback.

Admission to the Open House is free of charge

Those attending will be asked to share their thoughts on seven major proposed recommendations, along with some smaller interventions, for improving park mobility. Among them are:

· Converting the road around the island to a two- way street.

· Installing protected bike lanes on the bridge.

· Creating a promenade just for walkers and bikers down the center of Central Avenue.

· Improving signs around the island to help visitors know where to go and how to get there.

· Taking alternative mobility options such as a ferry or improved public transportation to and from the park.

The Mobility Open House is part of the Belle Isle Multimodal Mobility Study - an 18-month effort to develop a phased strategy for implementing sustainable mobility solutions for managing circulation, wayfinding, and parking on the island. The goal is to reduce congestion, increase safety and ease travel for all park users and modes of transportation.
