100th Anniversary Celebration - Celebrating Detroit through the Decades
SOLD OUT! VIP reception: 5:30 - 6:30 pm
Main event: 6:30 - 10:30 pm
Join the Detroit Historical Society and co-chairs Jennifer Granger, Leslye Rosenbaum, Linda Schlesinger-Wagner and Lois Shaevsky for the 100th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, April 29, 2023, 6:30-10:30 p.m. at the Detroit Historical Museum. Themed “Celebrating Detroit through the Decades,” the event will shine a spotlight on 100 years of collecting, sharing and preserving Detroit’s history and why telling these stories matters. The evening will include a strolling dinner and dessert reception throughout the museum, a silent auction and raffle, plus various entertainment experiences including period actors bringing museum exhibits to life.
The VIP Reception will kick off the evening at 5:30 p.m. with a special ceremony honoring Detroit legends, including Detroit Pistons great Ben Wallace, Lions legend Lomas Brown, legendary sports broadcasters George Blaha and Ken Daniels, and acclaimed anchorwoman Amyre Makupson, as they place their handprints and signatures into cement casts for permanent display at Legends Plaza. Legends Plaza is the Detroit Historical Museum’s signature outdoor exhibit and features the handprints and signatures of individuals who have helped shape the culture of the region, state, and nation.
Since its founding, the Detroit Historical Society has been dedicated to ensuring the history of our region is preserved so that current and future generations of metro Detroiters can better understand the people, places and events that helped shape our lives.
Net proceeds from the 100th Anniversary Celebration will support educational programs, which will enable more school children to attend museum field trips throughout the year. The event will also support the millage campaign efforts for 2024, which will ensure that Detroit’s stories are told for many generations to come.
