East Kirby Avenue Historic District
The East Kirby Avenue Historic District contains four buildings: an apartment building and three two-family flats. These four buildings were originally part of the D.M. Ferry Subdivision, which was plotted in 1886.
The three residences were two-story, two-family flats built between 1914 and 1918 in the Vernacular prairie style. The apartment building, named Great Lakes Manor, was built in 1925 and contained 34 residential units and a store.
Some note-worthy residents of the East Kirby Avenue Historic District include Jacob B. Lasky, founder of the Hebre Free Loan Society, and John W. Roxborough, who was Joe Louis’ manager for ten years.
