Antique Outboards at the Dossin Great Lakes Museum

July 28 2018 | 10:00am to July 29 2018 | 3:55pm

Free admission!

In what is becoming a Belle Isle tradition, the Dossin Great Lakes Museum will host a colorful gathering of antique outboard motors and vintage powerboats on Saturday, July 28. The outboard motor, which was first commercially manufactured in Detroit, democratized the boating industry. Given the lakes, rivers and mechanical know-how in the region, it is not surprising that Michigan and Ontario have a rich history of building, driving and racing outboards and the boats designed to accommodate them.

Historic racing hulls, both inboard and outboard, will share the grounds with beautiful recreational craft and rare engines. This event, now in its fourth year, is being organized by the Great Lakes Chapter and Southern Ontario Rowboat Motor Chapter of the Antique Outboard Motor Club, Inc., in cooperation with the Detroit Historical Society.
