The Links, Incorporated: Our History, Our Story

The Robert and Mary Ann Bury Community Gallery is a changing exhibition space made available to local historical societies, museums, non-profit organizations and educational institutions, selected for their contributions to the metro Detroit community. Organizations are featured in order to share their stories and provide new perspectives on the issues, ideas and individuals that have shaped our region’s rich history.

It was officially renamed as a tribute to retiring long-time Executive Director Bob Bury and dedicated in a ceremony on November 1, 2018.

The Links, Incorporated 

The Links, Incorporated is one of the of the nation’s largest, not-for-profit volunteer service organizations. Established in 1946, it has a membership of more than 17,000 professional women of African descent in 299 chapters located in 21 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, and the United Kingdom. Since its inception, the Links has been dedicated to educating, informing, empowering, and improving the quality of life for people in its communities.

The Detroit Chapter of The Links, Incorporated - the first Michigan-based chapter - was established in 1951, just five years after the national organization was founded in Philadelphia. Learn more about The Links and its members in this new exhibition, which features a timeline of major milestones in the history of the Detroit Chapter and highlights its work in The Links' five programming areas: Arts, Services to Youth, International Trends, Health and Human Services, and National Trends. See artifacts from prominent Links members, including dresses, scarves, and jewelry, and learn more about some of its biggest service events.
