French Canadian Heritage Day

In 2014, the Michigan House of Representatives proclaimed the week between September and October to be French Canadian Heritage Week. For the third year, the Detroit Historical Society will celebrate with French Canadian Heritage Day on Saturday, September 30.

11 a.m. Diane Wolford Sheppard, of the French-Canadian Heritage Society of Michigan, will speak about Michigan and Detroit maps and cartographers through 1760. Then Suzanne Boivin Sommerville, also of the French-Canadian Heritage Society of Michigan, will join her to talk about how to research your own Genealogy. 

2 p.m. Storytime with Nadine Robert, director of the publishing house Comme des Géants and author of Joseph Fipps and Le Puit, in partnership with the Quebec Government Office in Chicago.

3 p.m. Finish out the program with the musical group Trois Bouffons, which means “three street performers.” They will entertain the crowd at with traditional French-Canadian music, community dance and storytelling.
