Join us at the Dossin Great Lakes Museum on Saturday, May 20 from 2-3 p.m. for a special presentation by Detroit artist Laura Quattrocchi on her work “All that Shines Under the Dirt” and “Trash Actions.” Through the collection of trash in Detroit’s Dexter Linwood community, Laura recycles cans and various items left behind into beautiful sculptures and performance pieces to relate spiritually to nature and her environment.
Registration is free with museum admission.
About All That Shines Under The Dirt
All That Shines Under the Dirt is an immersive installation composed of giant flowers made from smashed cans inspired by drawings made by children and people from Detroit’s Dexter Linwood neighborhood where the cans were found.
About Trash Actions
Trash Actions is an ongoing art practice/research that produces sound and a sculpture while collecting litter/trash in Detroit and rearranging it.
About the Artist
Laura Quattrocchi is a movement and visual artist. Laura was born in Padova, Italy, moved to New York City in 1995 to study contemporary dance, and relocated to Detroit in 2016. Central to her dance development was meeting and working with Daniel Lepkoff, Elaine Summers (Kinetic Awareness), Karl Anderson ( Skinner Release ), and Joshua Bisset. She discovered her interest in visual arts and fabrication after collaborating with visual artists Diego Britt, Sylvestre Gobart, and Agata Oleksiak. In 2000 she joined shuagroup.org founded by Joshua Bisset her long-time collaborator. Her current practice includes concepts, fabrication, set design, performance, and visual art.
