From the CEO: February 2024
Dear Friends,
While we honor Detroit’s Black history every day in our museums, we invite you to take a special moment to gather, reflect, and celebrate with us in February. On February 24, our On the Shoulders of Giants: Celebrating Black History Month event will feature a full day of family activities, including a lecture and panel discussion on civil engineer Cornelius Henderson, a jazz performance by the Vincent Chandler Experience, and our popular vendor marketplace in the Streets of Old Detroit. Admission is free!
While you’re here, visit three new temporary exhibitions, included with museum general admission:
- Thirty-five | 20 celebrates the 1989 and 2004 Detroit Pistons Championship teams with rarely seen artifacts from the Detroit Pistons and Detroit Historical Society collections. Visit on the second floor through June 23, 2024.
- The Hustle: Detroit’s Unsung Entrepreneurs is the final exhibition showcasing the museum’s two-year, community-driven initiative to honor contemporary Black Detroit entrepreneurs. It’s open through March 31, 2024 on the lower level.
- Stories in Stereo: Voices of Detroit Students presents writing and audio tracks from fifth graders at University Prep Mark Murray, presented by 826 Michigan in the Auditorium Showcase on the lower level. Now through March 17, 2024 on the lower level.
Be well,
Elana Rugh
