Salvaging Sound: Detroit Sound Conservancy and the Struggle to Preserve Detroit's Musical Legacies
by Dr. Carleton Gholz, Founder and Executive Director of the Detroit Sound Conservancy
From City Hall to international exhibitions, the nonprofit Detroit Sound Conservancy and its partners have consistently raised the alarm that our sound needs salvaging. Whether it’s historical sites at risk of demolition, recordings disintegrating in basements, or musicians with incredible stories still yet to be sung, the time to act is now.
Dr. Carleton Gholz, founder and executive director of the Detroit Sound Conservancy, will host a presentation on the history and impact of the organization. He will also talk about the upcoming exhibit on the organization that will explore the vision and journey of Detroit Sound Conservancy through historical artifacts and storytelling, photographs and ephemera, as well as oral history recordings and music.
