The Algiers Motel Murders and the Infrastructure of Injustice

Danielle McGuire is an Associate Professor in the History Department at Wayne State University and the award-winning author of At the Dark End of the Street: Black Women, Rape and Resistance – a New History of the Civil Rights Movement from Rosa Parks to the Rise of Black Power and Freedom Rights: New Perspectives on the Civil Rights Movement. During this presentation, McGuire will discuss the murder of three teenagers at the Algiers Motel on July 26, 1967 by Detroit police, how a group of disparate individuals worked to hold them accountable for their actions and how the police got away with it.
