Detroit saw renewed interest in redevelopment during the 1960s. Some of these maps attest to the progress being made or proposed, and others just tell us where to find the chocolate.
As this circa 1960 map shows, parking was just as important to Wayne State University students half a century ago as it is today. Although the 15¢ fee is part of history.
In the 1960s, Detroit was a perennial contender for hosting the Summer Olympic Games. This meant that lots of planning had to be done in advance of submitting a bid. Possible stadium and housing sites around the city are shown on this map.
This 1964 map prepared by the Detroit City Plan Commission indicates the status of redevelopment projects around the core of the city. These include the Medical Center, Lafayette Park, Elmwood Park, West Side Industrial, University City, and Milwaukee Junction.

The Detroit Housing Commission prepared this map in 1969 to highlight areas of low income housing, redevelopment, and code enforcement.
