From the CEO: August 2023

Dear Friends,

teachersAugust is Teacher Appreciation Month, and we're showing our gratitude to educators with a special offer of free admission at both of our museums! Teachers and school staff of all levels are invited to show their School ID at the front desk at the Detroit Historical Museum or Dossin Great Lakes Museum to receive complimentary admission on the day of their visit. Learn more here.

As usual, we have plenty of new events and exhibits to check out this month. Black Baseball in Living Color features 237 portraits of Negro League baseball players on exhibit in the Auditorium Showcase and the newest display in The Hustle: Shopkeepers and Stylists, is also open now at the Detroit Historical Museum. Join us for a panel discussion on Sunday, August 13 featuring Hustle honorees and nominees discussing the intersections of business, hair and beauty in Detroit. Register here.

This month, we’re also resuming our Members-Only Tours and Receptions, with an evening event on August 24 at the Detroit Historical Museum. Meet other members and check out some of the exhibitions that will be closing soon, including the incredible Soul of Philanthropy exhibit in the Community Gallery and its companion exhibit, Detroit Gives Black in the Detroit Artists Showcase just down the hallClick through to register now.

Be well,
