Come Out! In Detroit

NOW OPEN through September 11 in the Auditorium Showcase

Fifty years ago, in 1972, Detroit was home to the first-ever LGBTQ+ pride celebration in Michigan. To commemorate this historic event, illustrator Isabel Clare Paul and historian Tim Retzloff teamed up to create “Come Out! In Detroit” —  a full-color, 32-page nonfiction comic book featuring primary eyewitness sources, oral histories and a cache of largely unseen photographs from the event.

To complement the book’s release, visit the Detroit Historical Museum's Auditorium Showcase for a special summer exhibition highlighting the layout, design and content of "Come Out! In Detroit." Framed prints of the cover and enlarged pages from the comic book will be on display, and free copies of the comic book will be available while supplies last.
