Detroit To the World: Victory Summer Tour

This year will mark the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II. To honor this historic occasion, travel with the Detroit Historical Society to sites across Western Europe whose history was shaped by Detroit, the Arsenal of Democracy. Follow military historian, veteran and experienced WWII battlefield tour guide, Steve Mrozek, on this once-in-a-lifetime experience and discover Detroit's role in bringing victory home.

Itinerary at a Glance & Accommodations

You will visit over 40 cultural sites in five countries: France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxembourg and Germany. 

June 16-18 Paris; Novotel Tour Eiffel Hotel

June 18-21 Three days visiting the Normandy historic sites; Mercure Cote Nacre 

June 21-24 Two days visiting the airborne battlefields of Operation Market-Garden in the Netherland; Crown Hotel Eindhoven Eden 

June 24-26 Three days exploring the Ardennes region of Belgium and Luxembourg where the Battle of the Bulge was fought; Novotel Luxembourg Kirchberg 

June 26-27 Two days in Germany, where we’ll visit the Dachau concentration camp and Hitler’s Eagles Nest retreat above beautiful Berchtesgaden in the German Alps; Stuttgart, Arcotel Camino

June 28-29 Munich; Eurostar’s Book Hotel

The tour will be led by Steve Mrozek, Detroit Historical Society team member, military historian, author, retired 26-year veteran and former paratrooper. Steve is also an experienced Smithsonian-certified WWII battlefield tour guide.

The Netherlands: the Wings of Liberation Museum, the Lieutenant Robert Cole Memorial, John Thompson Bridge , the Waal River Crossing Memorial, Schoonderlogt Farm, the American Cemetery at Margraten, and Eindhoven

Belgium: the site of the Malmedy Massacre, the Baugnez 44 Historical Center, the Dragon’s Teeth fortification at Grosskampenberg, the Bastogne Barracks, Bois Jacques, the Mardasson Memorial, and Bastogne

Luxembourg: the National Museum of Military History and the Luxembourg American Cemetery

Germany: Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial, Kehlsteinhaus- Hitler’s Eagles Nest retreat, Berchtesgaden, and Munich

You will depart from Detroit Metro Airport on June 16, 2020.

The entire 14-day package includes: roundtrip air travel and ground transportation aboard a luxury motor coach, tour of Paris, admissions to all museums and historic sites, world-class hotel accommodations, breakfast every morning, four lunches, seven dinners and all portage.
