Jazz on the Streets of Old Detroit

The Black Historic Sites Committee invites you to attend a “Re-Imagining Of Jazz" as interpreted by the rich vocal styling of Sky Covington. Join us as we close out Black History Month on February 28th with a performance from Ms. Covington, a native Detroiter, who is both singer and songwriter.  She has won numerous awards, including “Outstanding Jazz Vocalist” at The Detroit Music Awards in 2016, for her jazzy vocals.

Michigan History Day, an affiliate of National History Day sponsored by the Historical Society of Michigan, is a year-long educational program where students in grades 4-12 pick a historic topic related to an annual theme, conduct original research using primary and secondary sources, analyze their findings and draw conclusions about their topics significance in history and create final projects to showcase their work.  The projects, which include papers, documentaries, performances, exhibits and web sites, can be entered in a series of competitions from the local to the

Historic Houses of Worship Tour

Since 1972, the Historic Houses of Worship tours have acquainted metro Detroiters with the contributions that religious institutions have made in the development of our community. All tours run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and depart from and return to the Detroit Historical Museum. The cost is $40 for Detroit Historical Society members and $50 for guests. Your tour fee includes motor coach transportation with docent commentary, historical presentations at each tour stop and lunch.

Detroit Design 2067 is a week-long, youth-driven immersion program designed by the Detroit Historical Society to offer a cross section of high school students from throughout the metropolitan area an opportunity to be positioned as leaders for the future.
