The Detroit Historical Museum will join the other museums in our neighborhood by featuring entertainment and activities from 11 am to 5 pm (the museum will then close at 5 pm).

Fall Film Series: Rouse Simmons: The Christmas Tree Ship

The Rouse Simmons was a three-masted schooner which sank in Lake Michigan in a violent storm in 1912. The ship was bound for Chicago with a cargo of Christmas trees when it foundered off the coast of Two Rivers, Wisconsin, killing all on board.

Proving Grounds
in Utica were
 designed by Albert 
Kahn and the oval
test track was so
 well-engineered 
that drivers could travel around the banked curves in excess of 100 mph without holding the steering wheel. Come explore the lodge building and garage as you learn about the many ways the grounds have been used throughout their history.

Black Bottom Historical Marker Community Input Session

The Michigan Historical Commission needs your input on a potential state historical marker for Detroit’s Black Bottom Neighborhood.

The Detroit Historical Society’s Black Historic Sites Committee will host facilitators from the Michigan History Center for a two-hour discussion. Please join us and share your thoughts on what information should be included in the marker, and where the marker should be placed. Light refreshments will be served.

Noon Year's Eve

Join us for our family friendly New Year’s celebration! Preschool and elementary-aged children and their families can make their own noisemaker, write a time capsule letter, enjoy cookies and hot cocoa, and most importantly, ring in the New Year with a countdown to noon! Admission to the museum and the event is free, although parking fees may apply.

The museum will be open from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. for this special event.
