What are Docents?
Docents are special volunteers who give tours of museums. The word is derived from a Latin word for teacher, but docents are much more than instructors. They are performers, entertainers, racontours. They balance historical fact and the latest teaching methods with agood oratorial and acting skills. All of which can be learned through study, training, and modelling. The museums prepare you to become a docent, you supply the enthusiasm and commitment. Docents are asked to give one day per week, leading tours at the Detroit Historical Museum or one of our satelite sites – the Dossin Great Lakes Museum and Historic Fort Wayne. Docents are most needed Tuesday-Friday from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm.
Fill out an online application and we'll contact you with the next available training opportunity.
