| Description |
A mechanical toy bank called the Eagle Bank. It is a figure of an eagle with wings outspread on the edge of a nest containing two baby eaglets. There is a lever at the back. A coin is placed in the eagle's beak. When the lever is pressed, the eaglets rise from the nest begging for food. As the eagle bends to feed them, the coin falls into the nest and disappears into a receptacle below. The eagle flaps its wings and the babies chirp as the coin falls. It originally had leather bellows under the nest. The eagle has a glass eye. It is made from cast iron and was manufactured by J.E. Stevens Co. "PAT JAN23 1888", is stamped on the bottom. The coins can be removed by unlocking a trap on the bottom with a key. This trap is stamped, "PAT FEB2 1885". |
