Henry and Clara Ford’s estate, Fair Lane, was finished in 1916 and has gone through many changes over the years. After Clara Ford’s death in 1950, the Ford Motor Company took ownership of the estate, and in 1953 it became the Company’s corporate archives and a retreat. In 1956, the Estate was donated to the University of Michigan for a new Dearborn campus. The Henry Ford Estate-Fair Lane was recently transferred to a newly formed independent nonprofit entity. This tour, led by vice president of historic resources Mark Heppner, will be a rare, intimate view into the restoration and re-creation planning and the initial physical work. Understand how this national iconic estate is being transformed into a new historic home model that with forever change how historic estates are viewed and experienced.
