Great Lakes Maritime Institute Fall Dinner

at Blossom Heath Inn, 24800 Jefferson, St. Clair Shores

Guest speaker David Coleman will discuss “Freshwater Whalebacks & Captain Alexander McDougall -- The Designer.” The whaleback steamers and barges were unique in Great Lakes maritime history as their rounded hulls carried grain and iron ore in water-tight compartments. A total of 44 vessels of this design were built from 1887 to 1898, and they were compared to a cigar with bent-up ends.

In addition, author Patrick Livingston will sign copies of his new novel, A Day at Bob-lo.
