Works in Progress

Restoring artifacts for preservation takes a lot of effort and time, as well as financial donations from the generous metro Detroit community.

The images below were taken during the first stages of a mural restoration from the passenger steamer Greater Detroit. This steamer was built in 1924 and years of smoke build up from the large smoke stacks as well as cigar smoke took its toll on this mural - “The Battle of Lake Erie?lt;/I>.

Along with a great amount of surface dirt and canvas puncture holes from taking it off the ship, the Society’s conservation team recognized that this project would take great care and time to complete. This restoration is still in process and has yet to be completed.
