Doorway to Freedom: Slavery & the Underground Railroad in Detroit

The Detroit Historical Museum is thrilled to present a series of tours focused on the history, experiences and enduring influence of African Americans in Detroit. There will be a total of eight tours with different focuses available. Jamon Jordan, founder of the Black Scroll Network, will be the tour guide for this series.

Did you know that Detroit was a center of the abolitionist movement and an important site of the Underground Railroad? Not only were African Americans leaders in this movement, the fight against slavery is what helped to create the African American community in Detroit. Learn about the people, events and places that were a part of the fight for freedom in Detroit.
